All scores will be added to your total except for average finish in golf which will subtract.
Scoring:
There are 2 separate scoring objectives which will be combined to form your overall score:
Regular Season
Playoffs
Regular Season
Consists of 5 sports, with each sport having one category that will contribute to your score. In each category the highest scoring 2 players will be used. The remaining players will not count except as they may affect bonuses and penalties.
NFL QB – TD
Each TD scored, in any manner, counts as 1 point
NFL Position – TD
Each TD scored, in any manner, counts as 1 point
NBA Player – Double Double
Each double double is worth one point
NHL Player – Goal
Each goal is worth one point
MLB Player – Home Run
Each HR is worth one point
Golf – Average Finish across 4 majors and the Player’s Championship (Remaining tournaments do not count)
Average finish, however maximum finishing position is 50 (See bonuses and penalties for additional details)
Bonuses and Penalties
A 3 point bonus will be awarded to a team that drafts the league leader in NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL categories
A 3 point bonus will be awarded to the team with the highest combined score in a category – excluding golf - when combining all of their 4 players
A 1 point bonus will be awarded to the team with the second highest combined score in a category – excluding golf - when combining all of their 4 players
Golf specific – The winner of a tournament will earn 2 points for their team
Due to capping finishing position at 50 a 1 point penalty will be assessed to any player missing a cut event if that player does not end up as one of your two best finishing golfers. Golfers who make the cut, but finish below 50th will not be penalized. Golfers who do not participate will not be penalized. Golfers who withdraw will be penalized.
You can also bet up to 3 points on the Kentucky Derby – there is no obligation to risk any points. If you select a horse at 10-1 or less odds who wins you get paid 1-1 (so if you bet 3 you would net 3 extra points). Horses with odds 10-1 to 25-1 would pay 2-1 and horses with odds worse than 25-1 would pay 3-1.
Playoffs In the playoffs for each sport we will use rotisserie scoring meaning that the team with the highest results of all the teams will receive 7 points, next best will receive 6, and so on until the lowest scorer receives one point. (see Roster section for detail of playoff rosters).
Categories to be used will be:
NFL QB – Total Yards (Passing, Rushing and Receiving)
NFL Position – Total Yards (Passing, Rushing and Receiving)
NBA – Points Scored
NHL – Points scored (goals plus assists)
MLB – Total Bases
Golf – Strokes Under Par
Roster:
Regular Season
The top two scorers of the 4 person team will count, while the remaining players will only affect the bonuses and penalties noted above
Draft
We will hold a draft which will include 3 players in every category. You must draft 3 per sport. One player from your draft will be eligible as a keeper in the following season. They will be kept one round higher than previously drafted. I.E. A player drafted in the 8th round will be kept in the 7th the following season.
Waiver
Waiver claims must be made prior to a teams halfway point. For each sport this means it must occur before the team has played the number of games/events shown below. Teams will not all have the same midway point (NFL bye weeks) As long as the team you pick up from hasn't passed the midway point the player is eligible
NBA: Before the 42nd game
NHL: Before the 42nd game
MLB: Before the 82nd game
NFL: Before the 9th game
PGA: Before the third round of the third tournament has started – after round 2 of the PGA
Wildcard Waiver
Every team will receive 1 additional waiver which can be used for any sport at any time over the entire year, including after a season is complete. However this player will only be eligible to count towards a team’s top two players if used in the first half of the season, consistent with other waivers noted above.
If the waiver is selected after the second half of a season has begun (including after the season is fully complete) that player can only be used to increase the four person team score for purposes of receiving a bonus.
In either case the lowest scoring player in that sport will be replaced so no matter what every team will count 4 scores towards the team combined score. If a golfer is replaced you may choose which golfer you would like to replace as this waiver can remove a player who has accumulated penalty points.
Playoffs
In each sport the roster will consist of 3 players. These players are not drafted and can overlap with other teams.
One player in each sport will be the captain and his score will count 1.25 times. For example if this player gets 100 yards rushing and receiving it will count as 125 yards.
One player must be selected from a team that was not the first or second best team in their conference or in golf did not finish in the top 10 of the FedEx cup regular season standings. A list of teams/players that are ineligible for this will be provided for each sport.
In total:
1 Captain
1 player with no restrictions
1 player from a non-top team
Before the finals/super bowl for each sport you either add one player to your roster or double count one player already on your team just for the finals/super bowl (not retroactive) so that everyone is guaranteed to have a player in the finals. I think this will make it more interesting if your picks lose early.
For example if you choose Edelman (c), Michael Thomas, and Dalvin Cook for the playoffs and the Chiefs and Niners make the finals you now grab one player from either of those teams and their stats for just the super bowl are added to your team.
If another team has Tyreek Hill (c), Michael Thomas, and Dalvin Cook that person can choose to double count Hill or pick another player to add to Hill's score in the super bowl. In this case because Hill was this person's captain if they choose to double count Hill it would be counted as 2.5 times their super bowl result. If Hill was not the captain it would count as 2 times.
Prizes:
The highest scorer will receive free accomodations (house rental and if applicable air fare) paid for by the 5 other participants and 1 round of golf paid for by the person in last place. There will be a cap on how much the non-winners spend so it doesn't get overly expensive (maybe $300 for now)
The highest scorer will also get to choose their bedroom first and the choice of bed/bedroom will continue down the standings with 2nd picking next, then 3rd, etc...
In the event that we do not travel, the winner will receive all golf and food free over the course of the guys weekend. Last place will still be responsible for paying for one round of golf by themself. The remaining golf and meals will be split among the non-winners
Last place will also have the added responsibility of planning the trip for the following year. The first year would be 2020 since the loser of the first season won't be known until September/October 2019. Planning the trip is to be done solely by the person in last place who will not inform the rest of the group of where it will occur until 1 month before the trip. Although the exact weekend should be made known as early as possible to ensure everyone is able to attend. Take some pride in planning it. It is a lot of responsibility, but I think the suspense of not knowing where we are going until just before the trip will be pretty cool.
